The Borough of Macungie will borrow nearly $4 million to finance improvements to its sewer collection system, part of a countywide rehabilitation effort ordered by the federal Environmental Protection Agency. […]
Macungie is expected to spend about $6.6 million on the mandated work from 2018 to 2025, according to a proposed rehabilitation master plan (a final plan is due to EPA by the end of the year).
Macungie plans to install cured-in-place pipe lining in two-thirds of its 5.6-mile system, a higher proportion than any other municipality named in the EPA order. Because it sends sewage to Lehigh County Authority-owned pipes and the Allentown-owned treatment plant, the borough also has to pay its share of debt covering their mandated improvements.
